Heat transfer processes in molecular thin films are substantially dominated by the features of vibrational and rotational energy transfer of atoms and molecules comprising the film. In order to study the fundamental aspects of the energy transfer in molecular thin films, an infrared (IR) spectral study was carried out for thin films formed from carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrous oxide (N2O) molecules, and from carbon dioxide (CO2) and acetylene (C2 H2). IR absorptions were observed at fundamental vibrational modes C02 (v2 ,v3) N2O (v1 v2 ,v3), and C2 H2 v3 ,v5) which were largely modified by the molecular composition. The patterns of spectral changes were classified into five types. The results mean that the intramolecular features in molecular thin films could be appreciably affected by the intermolecular interaction.
