Sinopsis

Mathematical model of contact melting material with strong temperature dependent physical properties is constructed. The principal features of the process are revealed with the aid of the scale analysis. After analytical evaluations the problem is solved by using a boundary elements method. Since the heat source of arbitrary shape is considered, the shape factor is introduced to estimate the effectiveness of the process. The effects of nonlinear thermophysical properties on thermal resistance of the molten layer and surrounding solid material are investigated.
