THE INFLUENCE OF BUOYANCY ON THE BEHAVIOR OF THE VORTEX STRUCTURES IN A CYLINDER WAKE
Sinopsis
The effect of heat on the behavior of the structures shed from a bluff body is investigated for a flow around a heated cylinder. Both numerical results obtained by a point vortex model as well as Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) results are used to study this behavior. The specific values for the dimensionless parameters arc 73 for the Red number and the Rid number is chosen to be 0.0 and 1.0. The main effect of the induced heat for Rid = 1.0 is a downwards motion of the shed structures. This downwards motion is caused by a strength difference between the upper and lower structure rows where the upper vortex structures are found to be stronger than the lower vortex row.
