Sinopsis

An innovative concept of a cooling system is proposed utilizing the metal porous media with high thermal conductivity where heat conducted is removed by evaporated fluid flowing into numerous micro-channels counter to the heat flow. It principally makes the best of the following thermo-hydrodynamic effects: active boiling, capillary effect in inner porous media channels, heat transfer enhanced by fin effect, and flow enhanced by pumping effect like a heat pipe. An arc plasma gun is first developed for supplying the heat flux available up to 100 MW/m2. Preliminary experiments of porous media (SUS316 particles) achieve the removal heat flux up to 10 MW/m2 , and theoretical analysis shows the removal heat flux increased more by applying a high thermal conductivity material to the porous media. Particle-sintered porous media of Bronze particles (100μm in pore) are experimented. The Bronze porous media succeeds in removing the heat flux of 33.9 MW/m2, where heat removed is transported by latent heat of boiling liquid near the heated wall as well as convection in the deep zone of the porous media. Especially the latter activated by deep penetration of heat in the media brings about the thick thermal boundary layer. The results show that "much higher than 40 MW/m2" is surely expected to be realized by improving the porous material, structure, shape, etc.
