Sinopsis

To reveal the characteristics of the oscillating forced convection in curved ducts, three processing methods, short-time Fourier transform, wavelet transform and Hilbert-Huang transform were compared in this study. The comparison of the spectral analysis results using these three methods shows that Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) is a rational method for analyzing periodic and chaotic oscillations of forced convection in tightly curved ducts. The HHT method consists of the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and the Hilbert spectral analysis. The EMD is a useful filter to extract variability of different scales. The Hilbert amplitude spectrum shows the amplitude of oscillations as a function of time and frequency. The physical mechanism for the characteristics of thermal flow oscillation were revealed through Hilbert spectral analysis in this study.
