Sinopsis

This paper presents a closed-form of analytical solution for the efficiency of the nanofluid volumetric receiver (NVR). Moreover, with the analytical solution, key engineering parameters affecting the efficiency of the NVR are identified. The results show that the efficiency of the NVR is proportional to the receiver height, extinction coefficient of nanofluids and Peclet number, while it is inversely proportional to the receiver length and magnitude of heat loss. Especially, the extinction coefficient is key factor for improving the efficiency of the NVR under fixed NVR’s geometries and flow conditions. Finally, it is observed that the efficiency of the NVR can exceed the efficiency of the conventional flat-plate type solar receiver.
