Entransy is a new concept defined as the potential energy of the heat stored in a body. In heat transfer process, the concept of entransy can be used to measure the effectiveness of a system from a new perspective. In this paper, two cases were displayed as examples of entransy application to heat transfer optimization. These cases were selected from various aspects, including theory and practice of heat transfer optimization on convection and thermo radiation. Numerical simulations were employed to investigate the heat transfer performance in wavy-fin-and-flat-tube heat exchangers with slits. Field synergy principle was used for evaluation and had been proved to be a guidance for configuration design. The thermal performance of slit wavy fin models could be well described by extreme entransy dissipation and entransy-dissipation-based thermal resistance. Also, the attempt to use entransy method to consider the parabolic trough collector systemhad been shown. Ray tracing method and FVM were used for accurate energy analysis. Entransy efficiency of the system was defined and entransy dissipation and transfer of each heat transfer process were calculated. The entransy theory and field synergy analysis could serve as convenient and useful method, as hadbeenshown in the current development of variable geometry and solar energy harvest. It is hoped that those specific methods can be useful for future system designs and applications.
