Sinopsis

Natural convection in rectangular enclosures in encountered in many engineering applications such as heating and cooling of rooms, solar collectors, cooling of electronic equipment etc. The problem of natural convection in a square enclosure with single heat source has been extensively investigated for various boundary conditions. However, in many practical situations, multi-heat sources existed in the cavity, and the interaction among heat sources could affect the temperature distribution and flow pattern in the enclosure. Especially in the sub-atmosphere environment, the surface radiation need to be considered due to reduced natural convection, which will be important for thermal analysis and design. In the present study, the interaction effects of surface radiation with natural convection in a classical model of multi-heat sources in sub-atmosphere enclosure will be numerically analyzed, with the pressure range from 101 kPa to 0.1 kPa. The walls of enclosure are set to be isothermal and constant heat flux, respectively. Heat transfer results for natural convection will be presented as heat transfer coefficients, and the ratio of natural convection and surface radiation will also be presented. The effect of various parameters such as pressure, heat power, emissivity and position will be investigated to understand the heat transfer and to facilitate the optimal design of cooling electronic equipment.
