Résumé

The degree to which flexible bundles of heat exchanger tubes are redistributed by the forces of shellside flow is a function of the method of containment. The structures devised for containment of thousands of such tubes permit prediction of thermal performance and pressure drop for each configuration. The paper presents experimentally developed equations for prediction of performance that span the working ranges of tube count, spacing, Reynolds and Prandtl numbers, position of annular baffles and exchanger length. Heat exchange process and apparatus features embodying the described principles are the subject of U. S. and foreign patents recently granted the author and E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, Inc.
