Résumé

This paper presents an experimental and analytical investigation of transient film boiling of water from a horizontal submerged cylindrical wire following a large step change in wire temperature. A simplified solution for the vapor growth rate, which assumed a heat transfer coefficient from the cylindrical surface of the vapor to be of the same form as that from the stagnation point on a horizontal solid cylinder, is presented and compared to the results of Pitts and Yen [1, 2]. The simplified solution indicates that the heat transfer rate, from the vapor surface to the liquid can be represented by a normal Nusselt versus Reynolds number equation.
