Résumé

A study on heat transfer enhancement around the stagnation point of cylinder in a turbulent crossflow is conducted in special consideration of behaviors of anisotropic turbulence intensity and length scale in the free stream. A new turbulence model consisting of the k - ε equations and a newly proposed anisotropy equation is introduced to explain the production of turbulence energy due to anisotropy between the longitudinal and lateral Reynolds stress components in the free stream. To verify the validity of the turbulence model, accurate turbulence measurements are made in the free stream around a cylinder in a wind tunnel by varying independently turbulence intensity, length scale and Reynolds number, and the amplification of turbulence energy due to anisotropy is confirmed to agree with the prediction. The calculated stagnation- point heat transfer rates are found to agree well with the experimental results reported so far.
