HEAT TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT USING VORTEX GENERATORS
Résumé
High local heat transfer coefficients associated
with vortex flow have been previously observed. Plate fin surfaces have therefore been developed on which local vortex generators produce a set of contra-rotating
vortices between the fins which persist well
downstream from the generators. Tests on such fin surfaces are described and results for these are presented. It is shown that considerable enhancement of heat transfer occurs, the pressure loss penalty associated with to the vortex generators being modest.
From the experimental results, it is apparent
that a ratio of Colburn "j" factor to "f"
factor of more than 0.5 is achieved.
