EFFECTS OF TURBULENCE INTENSITY AND INTEGRAL LENGTH SCALE OF A TURBULENT FREE STREAM ON FORCED CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER FROM A CIRCULAR CYLINDER IN CROSS FLOW

Résumé

Experiments have been conducted to investigate the effects of the turbulence intensity and the integral length scale of a turbulent free stream an the local heat transfer from a circular cylinder in cross flow. The experimental data were obtained for air for Reynolds numbers (Re) ranging from 6,000 to 100,000 for the constant heat flux boundary condition. The turbulence intensity (Tu) was varied from 0.2 to 7 per cent, while the ratio of the integral length scale to the cylinder diameter (LX/D) was varied from 0.03 to 0.38. The data show a more systematic influence of the integral length scale at the front stagnation point than has been observed thus for. The increase in heat transfer from the stagnation region is more for (LX/D) < 0.1, than for larger values of (Lx/D) for the same value of the turbulence parameter Tu.Re1/2. Correlations for the average heat transfer have also been obtained.
