Résumé

The Landau method is used to determine the heat transfer to the upper and lower surfaces of a volumetrically heated horizontal fluid layer with solid boundaries. The results are generalized in terms of two Nusselt numbers (upper and lower surface heat transfer) which are defined as the ratio of actual heat transfer to conduction heat transfer. Comparison of the heat transfer predictions with measurements are found to be excellent over the entire range of available data. Horizontally averaged temperature predictions are very good for low Rayleigh number (less than 20 times critical) and deviate near the center of the core for high Rayleigh numbers.
