Résumé

A study of the characteristics of the pressure history of a vapor film as it grows at the surface of a hot sphere which has suddenly been immersed in a coolant is presented. The pressure history is obtained by a numerical solution of the equations of heat transfer, conservation of coolant mass and momentum, and the equations of state for the system. The results of the calculations for hot spheres in both water and sodium indicate that the pressure in the growing film exhibits a damped oscillatory behavior. The predicted trends of the pressure oscillations are in agreement with the limited available experimental observations on dynamic vapor film formation.
