Résumé

This paper describes studies that have been carried out to investigate the heat transfer processes occurring within banks of annular finned tubes in staggered arrangement. A large scale model rig has been used to allow detailed study of the airflow and heat transfer processes. Changes of these processes at different positions in the tube bank and for different tube bank arrangements were examined. Boundary layer conditions, local velocities and turbulence levels have been found to vary considerably over the fin surfaces and accounted for the large variations in heat transfer that were observed. Limitations of this type of surface are discussed.
