Résumé

Heat transfer across windows constitutes the major source of heat losses from a building. Considerable effort is now devoted to improving the thermal efficiency of windows.
This paper describes a numerical simulation of a double-glazed window unit in view of examining the possibility of using a gas other than dry air in the window cavity. The results of two simulations are presented: one which compares the total heat flux density as a function of window spacing for ten real gases, and a second one, which examines the concept of using a filling gas with a high absorbance in the infrared spectrum.
