Résumé

Al though not widely reported, annular flow dryouts are often preceded by a reduction in wall superheat, and a hysteresis effect becomes evident on reducing the heat flux. A theoretical model is proposed to explain these phenomena. This model postulates a nucleate boiling sublayer in the liquid film which undergoes structural change as dryout is approached, and it is used to develop a heat transfer equation which is shown to be consistent with available data.
