Résumé

Forced convective condensation of a nonazeotropic binary mixture of R113-R114 on smooth and finned cylindrical tubes was studied experimentally and theoretically. Measurements were performed with vertical and horizontal tube orientations and horizontal and downward vapor-flow directions. The condensation heat transfer coefficient of the binary vapor mixture was significantly reduced from that of the pure vapor of each component, because the vapor diffusion layer created a thermal resistance on the vapor-side. The experimental results show that the thermal resistance of the vapor diffusion layer is affected markedly by turbulence generated by the fins in the vapor and also by wavy motion of the condensate film. The dependence of the heat transfer coefficient on both the vapor-flow direction and the fin configuration can be explained clearly by considering these effects. An equation for predicting the heat transfer coefficient, derived from the analogy between the heat and the mass transfer, is presented. It considers suction effects, and compares well with the experimental results.
