TRANSITIONS TO OSCILLATORY NATURAL CONVECTION IN LOW Pr LIQUIDS SUBJECT TO A HORIZONTAL TEMPERATURE GRADIENT
Résumé
This study is concerned with the onset of oscillatory
natural convection in low Pr liquids housed within
rectangular, differentially-heated enclosures with
horizontal temperature gradients. Critical Rayleigh
numbers, associated with 0.005 ≤ Pr ≤ 0.035 are determined with a Chebyshev collocation numerical technique. Results are presented for A = 2 and A = 1. While the dependence of RaL,c upon Pr is straightforward for the A = 2 case, the relationship between the control parameters is relatively complex for the A = 1 situation. The nature of the onset of oscillatory flow is described, and heat transfer rates are reported and compared with correlations in the existing literature.
