Résumé

Longitudinal wall heat conduction in counterflow rotary regenerators have been extensively studied by Bahnke and Howard, Mondt, Romie, Skiepko and others as summarized in the paper. Results in 1960's were obtained numerically, and those in 1980's are obtained from an analytical solution. Although the results for the longitudinal conduction effects are available for the practical range of most of the problem variables, no quantitative results are reported in the literature when the dimensionless thermal conductance ratio (hA)* is not equal to the wall conduction cross-sectional area ratio (As*). In this paper, results for the case of (hA)* ≠As* are presented. It is shown that a significant variation in As* and (hA)* can at the most affect the regenerator effectiveness by less than 1 % in the practical range of parameters, and hence the effect of the inequality in (hA)* ≠ As* is not important for the design purpose.
