Résumé

Developments in software for process heat exchanger design are reviewed. Simple one-dimensional thermal models are considered through to transient analysis or full three dimensional computational fluid dynamics calculations. There is discussion of how the design of heat exchanges is becoming more closely integrated with the design of the whole process plant. Topics are noted which are influencing thermal design software such as quality assurance and computing platforms. Suggestions are made on future developments in the next five to ten years.
