Résumé

An analytical method is developed to obtain the cooling curves of Powder Metallurgy (P/M) of porous materials for the quenching process. The method of separation of variables is used to obtain the analytical solution. Depending on the temperature difference between the wall and quechant natural convection, nucleate boiling, film boiling processes with and without radiation are considered in the analysis. The heat transfer coefficients and thermal conductivity of the material are calculated using the empirical correlations available in the literature. Effect of pore geometries is not considered in the analyses. Examples of the cooling curves are given for the aluminum and plain carbon steel. Water is used as the quenchant, and the analytical results are obtained for 5, 10, 15 and 20 percent porosities and presented in tables and diagrams. The results are compared with the numerical results given in the literature.
