要約

Detailed heat transfer and air flow measurements have been made on plain and finned tubes in cross-flow in order to gain an understanding of the main factors influencing heat transfer. This knowledge has led to the development of an improved surface for heat transfer in the form of discrete rib roughnesses integral with the base tube. This surface could have important application in the heat exchangers of nuclear power stations of the Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor (A.G.R.) and High Temperature Reactor (H.T.R.) types. The surface offers an improvement in heat transfer over a plain tube of over 40% for a similar tube pitch.
