要約

A study is made of the free convection temperature field about a sphere in air. An interferometer is used to obtain the axisymmetric temperature field around the sphere using a modified Abel integral approach. The experimental studies are conducted for sufficiently high temperature differences that fluid property variation becomes important. Measured free convection temperature profiles are presented and compared with existing constant property theory. The interferometric data are checked for internal consistency by mean heat transfer measurements. An empirical parameter is developed to correlate the ratio Nu/Gr1/4 for variable property flows with that for the constant property case.
