要約

TMI accident has risen the interest of safety nuclear engineers in a relatively new heat transfer condition in reactor core, i.e. a situation in which the coolant flowrate is so low that the liquid level may be below the active length of the core and a particular type of post dry-out heat transfer dominates the temperature regime in the uncovered region. Therefore, an experimental research has been performed employing a very simple loop with a particularly accurate test section instrumentation for the measure of coolant and wall temperatures. Critical qualities at the dry-out point and post dry-out heat transfer coefficients have been systematically measured and compared with the available correlations. Moreover post dry-out heat transfer has been investigated with particular focus on the entrained droplets population and a droplet size distribution law has been derived by means of the coolant temperature measurements.
