要約

A method is described for calculating the temperature distribution in the wall of a thick wall steam generating tube with a partial dryout patch. A perfectly lagged, resistance heated tube is considered, in which the internal flow is stratified with vapour phase of uniform and constant angular width next to the wall.

Poisson's equation is solved by expansion in eigen-functions in the co-ordinates г, ø. The expansion coefficients are then found by solving a system of simultaneous equations.

The computer program is written for the IBM370 system and provides a complete temperature distribution in the tube wall. This provides for thermocouple diagnosis of flow conditions and could also be of use in stress studies.

Results agree closely with those from a finite difference program, but computing costs are very much less.

An Appendix describes an approximate analytical method devised by Scruton and Horrocks to cover the same conditions, and gives a comparison of the results.
