要約

With the phaseout of ozone depleting refrigerants in progress and global warming the next major environmental issue, the search for acceptable refrigerants continues. So-called 'natural refrigerants' are under serious consideration. Carbon dioxide is under intense scrutiny for automotive and some refrigeration applications. It poses a considerable challenge because under most operating conditions it operates as a transcritical vapor compression cycle. Ammonia systems are being revisited as options for new applications, and hydrocarbons are already being used, predominantly in small capacity equipment. Larger systems are under discussion.
This presentation will describe the challenges and opportunities of transcritical vapor compression cycles and the special heat transfer characteristics that are unique to fluids near the critical point.
