要約

Heat transfer from the wall of a packed tube to an air flow containing small solid particles and the corresponding pressure drop of the gas were examined experimentally. The main concern was the influence of the solid-loading ratio. The tube contained a packing of uniform-size spheres and was heated on the outside by condensing steam.
The heat transfer rate as well as the pressure drop increases with increasing solid-loading ratio. Ordinarily the heat transfer coefficient behaves similarly. However, under certain circumstances, it can decrease with increasing solid-loading ratio.
For a nondimensional presentation of the results, an equation for Nusselt number was derived from the heat balance. The additional pressure drop caused by the solid loading was calculated by means of momentum equation.
