The high heat transfer rates associated with impinging fluid jets have been recognised and well documented for many years. In this study data is presented for a type of heat exchanger module which utilises these high transfer rates over a large area by the use of multiple round jets in an inclined jet plate directed to strike a flat target surface. A range of jet diameters, jet pitches and jet Reynolds Numbers were investigated to assess mass and hence heat transfer. Detailed surface distribution of the heat transfer is given showing several features apparent in single jet impingement and other features unique to multijet situations. Cases where the impinging flow is swept downstream by the crossflow are also illustrated. The mean heat transfer coefficients over the entire target surface and the pressure loss characteristics are regressed to give equations for use in a predictive sense.
