A second-order wall function for the temperature variance in turbulent flow adjacent to a diabatic wall

A previous first-order calculation provides the initial conditions for a more accurate surface-renewal calculation of thermal coupling between a thick solid and a turbulent flow of a low-Prandtl-number fluid. Attention has been focused on the fluctuations at the solid/fluid interface, and the calculations lead to a closed-form expression which can easily be incorporated as a boundary condition for numerical solutions of the temperature variance equation. Comparisons with experiments are encouraging, although more data are required for a full appraisal of the theory.
