要約

Experimental measurements of the velocity fields in enclosures of basic geometries are almost nonexistent. The velocity data offered in this study, obtained using LDA techniques, will enable the evaluation of the various numerical schemes. The two geometries studied are the two dimensional square geometry with differentially heated isothermal vertical walls and insulated horizontal surfaces and the two dimensional square geometry with centrally located partitions which protrude from the top and bottom surfaces. Rayleigh numbers ranging from 105 to 106 were studied. Vertical velocities were measured at the one quarter, one half and three quarter height locations for both geometries, and horizontal profiles were measured midway between the side walls. Comparisons to numerical predictions are made. The data will serve as a reference for the evaluation of future numerical studies.
