要約

Results from heat and mass exchange studies on geyser systems» obtained by using mathematical and physical modeling as well as during field work of many years in the Geyser Valley, Kamchatka, are discussed. New environmentally-safe techniques of hydraulic, thermal and chemical probing have been used to determine the thermal characteristics of natural geysers. The enthalpy of the heat-transfer medium was found to be 165-195 kcal/kg. The mass parameters for Kamchatka's largest Velikan geyser were first determined. The mass of water involved into active free convection in this geyser is estimated at 30·103 kg, with 20·103 kg being ejected. The role of free convection and the water metastability effect on the eruption initiating mechanism have been assessed.
