要約

In Liquid Metal Fast Breeder Reactor (LMFBE), especially, the pool type, many components such as intermediate heat exchangers and primary pumps penetrate a intermediate plenum in addition to the roof slab of the reactor vessel. These penetrations form vertical annular gaps. In these annular regions, natural convection of liquid sodium or cover gas occurs due to temperature differences between the top and bottom of the gap. This flow consisting of several pairs of hot upward and cold downward flows can lead to the destructions of the components. In this study, numerical and experimental investigations were made of natural convection in a vertical annular gap of which the upper was connected with a cold space and the bottom a hot space. Three dimensional simulations were performed numerically by applying a difference scheme. Experimental data were compared with the numerical calculations. It was found that natural convection could be correlated successfully by the newly proposed Ra* number based on the width of the annular gap irrespective of the aspect ratio (gap width / height).
