要約

Automotive engines have become more compact and lighten; in the same time, thermal load increased with increase of the power for better performances. In addition, the cooling system is reduced in size to obtain a better aerodynamic profile. These thermal constraint become very critical for the material resistance because of the insufficient heat exchange capacity of the cooling system used until now.
Moreover the need of fuel economy, reduction of exhaust emission and pollution become more and more important.
Therefore, it becomes necessary to develop a better cooling system than the present one. An evaporative cooling system can achieve this goal. It is realised by allowing the coolant to boil.
The purpose of this work is to analyse the main physical parameters connected to the development of two phase flow and boiling inside an engine. Two ways are presented: a numerical simulation and an experimental approach.
