A computer package has been developed to solve heat transfer problems with phase change and to predict the temperature distribution and phase front location variation with time. The fixed-mesh package incorporates latent heat effects using O'Neill's method. The time domain solution uses a central difference procedure. Underground freezing of pipelines with and without frost shields is studied using our package, and the results are discussed.
