During boiler operation, several interdependent physical and chemical processes take place in the furnace. Among them the fouling process, i.e. the deposition of the fuel mineral particles on the boiler furnace surface, is of particular interest. This process is particularly intensive during combustion of young brown coal, lignite coal and oil shales. A deposit formed on the heating surface, being only several millimeters in thickness, considerably effects the heat transfer from the flame to the boiler surface. The fouling process affects the efficiency of the boiler and economic operation of the power plant.
