要約

We discuss recent developments and present new fundamental advancements in five areas involving multidimensional, multiphase flows, with very intense dynamics due to pressure waves and phase change phenomena. Specifically, we consider the limits of downward boiling curved surfaces, high temperature particle clouds plunging into liquid pools, strong pressure waves in multiphase media, microscale interactions of high temperature melt drops with a surrounding liquid, and the combination of the latter two to produce thermal detonations. We emphasize the methodological aspects of integrating local descriptions (key physics) towards predicting collective phenomena, and the importance of consistency among behaviors at different scales to converge to the appropriate regimes (relevant to the problem).
