Resumo

The conditions under vhich micleation occurs at artificial sites has been determined experimentally for forced convection boiling. The size of the nucleation sites, the velocity of the water, and the degree of sub—cooling were varied in the experiments. The experimental results are compared with various theoretical models that have been proposed; for example, the models based on the two extreme assumptions that on the one hand convection in the liquid around the bubble is dominant, and on the other that conduction is dominant. The effect of thermocapilliary flows is also considered. Agreement is reasonable for the larger sites and higher velocities, but theory predicts a lover wail superheat for nucleation than vas obtained experimentally for the smaller sites and lover velocities.
