Resumo

The velocity and temperature distributions in the liquid layer formed on the front of an electron beam welding cavity are investigated. A two-dimensional model is formulated and the local non-similarity boundary layer method applied to calculate velocity and temperature distributions at selected angular locations. Results are presented for conditions which simulate welding of aluminum. These are considered representative of distributions which occur at the top of a cavity. Predicted liquid layer thicknesses and temperature changes through the layer however indicate that the liquid flow must include a significant downward component.
