Resumo

Condensation of steam in a U-tube heat exchanger in the presence of non-condensible gas was investigated analytically and experimentally. The analytical model is based on the work of NUSSELT, FICK and COLBURN/HOUGEN. The axial distribution of non-condensible gas and the resultant influence on heat transfer was examined in a specially built test rig. Two zones were identified: an active zone in which condensation of pure steam takes place and a passive zone with a high concentration of non-condensible gas and no condensation. The existence of these two zones was verified by the analytical model.
