Resumo

A theoretical analysis has been developed for temperature distribution and thermal constriction resistance in double tube heat exchangers as a function of heat flux distribution at the contact land. Two special cases, i.e., the uniform heat flux distribution and isothermal condition at the contact land, are also presented. An experimental study of the temperature distribution was conducted by using an electric analog field plotting technique. Also included is a numerical solution using the finite difference method. The results from the analog and numerical methods are in excellent agreement with each other as well as with the average value of the two special cases. It can be concluded that the actual heat flow value lies between those of the two special cases. In other words, the lower limit of the heat flow may be represented by the case of uniform heat flux distribution and the upper limit by the isothermal condition. The average heat flow of the two special cases may be considered as the actual value.
