Resumo

This paper deals with the entry-length heat transfer to an upward laminar flow with combined convection in infinite vertical rod arrays. The analysis is carried out under the conditions that the fluid entering the entrance region has a uniform temperature and a fully developed velocity profile and that the rods at the position where heating begins have a jump discontinuity in heat flux from 0 to q. The rod surface heat flux, q, is uniform over the entire rod surface. The heat transfer problem of three-dimensional flow is solved by the finite-element method. To obtain reasonable pressure profiles, the pressure Poisson equation is used. The velocity correction procedure is also used to obtain a converged solution. The governing equations are parabolic in the vertical coordinate and the marching method is therefore employed. The numerical solutions for velocity, temperature and pressure fields depend on the parameters, Re, Gr, Pr, and the P/D ratio.
