Resumo

The results of a boundary-layer similarity analysis are presented which are applicable to liquids wherein viscosity variations are large compared to other fluid property variations. This is known to be realistic for many important liquids. For a vertical isothermal surface, similarity is shown to exist for viscosity variation expressed as a general function of temperature. For the simpler situation of a linear variation of viscosity with temperature, calculated results are presented for a wide range of Prandtl number. For this circumstance, a single additional dimensionless parameter arises which includes variable viscosity effects across the flow region. Significant effects on flow and transport are found.
