Resumo

Numerous computational schemes for calculation of two-phase flow in a single channel exist in the literature. The model presented here has several features not present in currently available models. The formulation is based on the drift flux equations and will handle, in principle, co-current (up or down) and counter current flow. Non-equilibrium in subcooled and film boiling is treated. In film boiling vapor temperature is calculated for various 'sub regions'. Two phase levels are tracked inside a simulated fuel bundle. Multiple levels can exist due to counter current flow limitations at various restrictions such as rod spacers. The hydraulics model can be coupled by means of a radial conduction solution for the heated rods to provide the heat flux during transients.
The capabilities of this model are illustrated by application to various transients.
