FORCED AXIAL CONVECTION FILM CONDENSATION IN A TWO-PHASE BOUNDARY LAYER OVER A CIRCULAR CYLINDER

Resumo

The film condensation of a pure saturated vapour flowing axially over an isothermal circular cylinder is studied using the two-phase boundary layer equations. A non-dimensional longitudinal co-ordinate parameter β, proportional to the square root of the distance x from the edge of the cylinder, is defined. A series solution is obtained in powers of β. The differential equations governing the zeroth, first and second order coefficients in the series are solved numerically. The problem involves five parameters: (CpΔT/hfgPr), R, Pr, α and β. The average heat transfer to the cylinder is presented graphically. In the ranges of the parameters considered, it is found that the average heat transfer to the cylinder is higher than that of a flat plate by 2 to 30 percent.
