Resumo

Test results for natural convective heat transfer rates and temperature fields between isothermal, vertical cylinders with hemispherical ends and their isothermal spherical enclosures are presented. The temperature fields enable deductions concerning the flows; in most cases these are found to be similar to concentric sphere flows, although distinct differences occur. The heat transfer results were correlated by the empirical equation previously developed for concentric spheres; evaluation of this expression required a knowledge of conduction heat transfer rates between the two bodies. This was developed using a finite difference technique, and results are presented for all cylinder-sphere combinations.
