Resumo

Heat transfer data for the pool boiling and condensation of elemental selenium were obtained and correlated. The heat transfer surfaces consisted of a horizontal stainless stelel 316 boiling plate and condensing tube. Heat transfer coefficients ranged from 681 to 6810 W m2·°K (120 to 1200 BTU hr.ft2·°F) in the case of boiling and from 454 to 1305 W m2·°K (80 to 230 BTU hr.ft2·°F) in the case of condensation, over a pressure range of 0.133 to 10.1N cm2 (10 to 760 Torr), at 437 to 687°C, respectively. Corrosion of the apparatus, though heavy, was found to have insignificant effect on the heat transfer data. Results were interpreted qualitatively in terms of the complex molecular chain and ring structure of liquid and vapor selenium.
