Resumo

The high speed digital computer permits, through the use of an appropriate program, large scale thermal analyses of devices and systems by the so-called finite-difference method. Two problems that often arise in the performance of these analyses are computer capacity limitations and cost due to computer running time. The size of the analysis, that is, the number of finite-difference nodes is dictated by the capacity of the computer memory. The cost of the analysis, depending on the program used, varies approximately, but directly, as the square of the number of nodes. Both problems can be alleviated by a reduction of the number of nodes which can easily be accomplished by the star-mesh transformation.
