EFFICIENCY OF LONGITUDINAL FINS OF ARBITRARY SHAPE WITH NONUNIFORM SURFACE HEAT TRANSFER AND INTERNAL HEAT GENERATION
Resumo
The efficiency of fins of arbitrary shape and nonuniform surface heat transfer is compared with and
without internal heat generation. The fin efficiency is computed for values of the parameter l2 hav/kavYav ≤ 1.
Without internal heat, a lower bound is found for the fin efficiency; an upper bound is also obtained when
the surface heat transfer coefficient increases from root to tip. The shape of a fin of given profile area
yielding the maximum heat flux is obtained for arbitrary distributions of surface heat transfer and internal
heat generation. Special results are derived for trapezoidal fins.
